The Requirements and Business Analysis Experts

Building Business Process Excellence

Are your business processes undocumented?  Are you evaluating where to focus your resources and need the ability to analyze the impact of proposed changes?  Is a merger or acquisition placing you at risk of losing the knowledge of skilled workers?

Documenting your ‘as-is’ business processes is a way to address each of these needs by showing the relationships, systems, data, events, roles and business rules that make the organization work.  You can bring these myriad elements together by building process flow maps.  While these diagrams are similar to traditional “swim lane” process models and use standard BPMN notation, tailoring the models to show where systems support the process, to illustrate where business rules occur, and to document risk areas makes the information more complete and useful.

How does this type of diagram get built?  Experienced facilitators work across departments and functions to piece together the detailed tasks, systems, data and business rules that go into the day-to-day execution of a business process.  The result?  Participants have a clear and coherent picture of the business process, how it works now, and (perhaps most important) how it can be improved.   The goal is a high-functioning business process where operations run risk-free; processes are re-usable and consistent across business lines; resources and technology interact smoothly and efficiently; and work flow can adapt quickly to changing markets and regulations.
