Business Assets for an Insurance Enterprise
Summary:
Doreen Evans Associates assisted in building an architecture of business assets, data assets and system assets for the enterprise.
Client Profile:
One of the largest diversified financial and insurance service providers in the United States.
The Challenge:
The company’s enterprise architecture group wanted to develop a central repository for maintaining and sharing assets among stakeholders to empower innovative IT solutions that satisfied dynamic business needs. However, they recognized that before they could load the repository, they would need to define a set of rigorous processes to use when they performed business, data, and system analysis so that the resulting work would generate the knowledge assets needed for the repository.
The Solution:
DEA worked closely with the project team to design, develop and implement an enterprise information repository containing the business assets that describe and visualize the enterprise business assets. The repository was organized into three views: business (including processes, organizations, and goals), data and systems. The team implemented a repository made available in a Web-based application on the client’s Intranet web server. Other activities included working with IBM/IAA models to provide both a current view and an evolving goal state view of the business processes in the repository.
To support the content management of the repository, DEA defined a custom Business Analysis and Requirement Specification process for the company. To support the deployment of the standard process across the organization, the process was delivered in DEA’s web-enabled COACH format.
The result was a structure in place to maintain the important knowledge assets gained from future project work. Communication and collaboration among all stakeholders was improved and the enterprise architecture group was recognized as providing important information to the business community.
