The Business Analysis Body of Knowledge^® (BABOK^® Guide) contains invaluable guidance, but it’s not a step-by-step process that BAs can follow.  DEA can help you make it actionable by providing processes, modeling techniques, standards and tools, as well as coaching and training.

Mastering business analysis competencies is a terrific goal, but unless you can put those competencies into practice they will  take you only so far.  What’s needed is a cohesive, end-to-end process that tells you what to do, when to do it, how to do it and who should do it.

But how do you go about establishing such a process?  DEA has developed our own methodology, LINKProcess™, that encompasses best practices, IIBA® BABOK® knowledge area, and includes approaches that take advantage of our experience and use of tools.  Even so, we advocate that each organization needs its own methodology.  While that methodology should be based on the best thinking available (and we think that’s LINKProcess™), you must then marry that with your organization’s reality:  the tools you are using, the environment that exists, the kinds of roles and the skills of those who fill the roles, the constraints of time, money, and tools, and the goals you are working toward.   Only then will a methodology become real to your organization; and only when it becomes real will it become useful.
