  • Are about 40% lecture and 60% case study exercises
  • Use a comprehensive case study, but can be modified to include a case study from your organization

Conducting Scoping Analysis for a Requirements Project
Course Number NT-120
(submitted for IIBA certification)
This introductory course enables Business Analysts to jump start their requirements projects with a strong foundation in understanding the nature of the project and documenting the scope – a key starting point to ward off “scope creep” down the road.  Participants will learn how to determine the scoping analysis approach, techniques and work products. Best practices and proven techniques will be employed to elicit, analyze, and document the requirements project scope via a scope analysis deliverable.
Can be taught with Blueprint or Enterprise Architect for worksessions.

Facilitation Techniques
Course Number NT-130
(submitted for IIBA certification)
A solid grounding in facilitation enables Business Analysts to conduct their requirements elicitation efforts with knowledge, proven techniques and practice. The skills transferred through this active learning experience, which includes both in-person and virtual sessions, expand a Business Analyst’s ability to plan and facilitate requirements workshops, one of the best ways to maximize information gathering and minimize the time commitment required by subject matter experts.

Fundamentals of Business Analysis using a Requirements Life Cycle Process
Course Number: NT-200 (IIBA certified)
This course is based on DEA’s LINKProcess ™ for business analysis and requirements definition. This process, honed over more than two decades of project work, has been tailored to include best practices for the requirements life cycle and to support each of the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® (BABOK® Guide)areas. The process begins with understanding a business need, and includes the requirements review cycle and change management. Hands-on work sessions provide practice in applying the techniques. If your organization does not have an established process for the requirements life cycle, here is a place to begin. If your organization has a process, this course can be tailored to incorporate your terms, techniques and templates.

Business Process Analysis and Improvement
Course Number: NT-220 (IIBA certified)
Understanding and documenting business processes is critical for process improvement, for building requirements for change, or to understand risk areas. This two-day course teaches an approach for analyzing and documenting your business processes and explores using organization charts, events, process decomposition diagrams, and BPMN process flow maps to capture opportunities for improvement, business rules, and risks and controls.
Can be taught with Blueprint or Enterprise Architect for worksessions.

Use Cases for Requirements Elicitation and Analysis
Course Number NT-230 (IIBA certified)
This course introduces the concepts of use cases and describes how they can be used effectively. It covers topics such as identifying use cases; completing a template for describing use cases; and building Activity Diagrams to illustrate the steps and decisions throughout the path of a use case. It will also touch on using use case scenarios to drive test scripts.
Can be taught with Blueprint or Enterprise Architect for worksessions.

Data Modeling Concepts and Defining Data Requirements
Course Number NT-250 (IIBA certified)
This course teaches the basics of data modeling, including conceptual and logical modeling techniques. You’ll define entities and attributes and learn about subject areas and project data models.  In addition, the course will address data requirements at a business level and how to define data needs for user interface screens.  The course includes discussion of industry-standard reference models, for example, IBM’s IAA.
Can be taught with Blueprint or Enterprise Architect for worksessions.

Enterprise Architect Fundamentals
Course Number: EA-300
This two-day class will provide a foundation for the basic functionality of Enterprise Architect.  Diagram basics will be taught, focusing on the UML behavioral and structural diagram types within EA.  Additional topics include: an overview of an EA Project, use of the EA Project Browser, element traceability, and project reporting.  The reporting component will introduce EA’s RTF and HTML report generators.  The class will conclude with an overview of how EA can be customized.

Blueprint v5 Fundamentals
Course Number: BP-400
This two-day class provides a foundation for the basic functionality of Blueprint v5 and teaching diagram basics including Business Process Models, Activity Diagrams, Domain Models, and Use Case Diagrams, as well as the Generic Diagram with ideas for how to put this diagram type to use. Additional topics include user interface design, use case narratives, simulation, the review and commenting process, and report templates.  The class will conclude with an overview of how Blueprint can be configured.
